What's your favorite

...Holiday tradition?

That's right, this fun little contest is all about traditions. I want to know about a favorite tradition in your family. It might be one from when you were a child or a new one that was started as you got married or had children.

For me, growing up a fun one was that every night before bed we turned both the outside and inside Christmas lights off, but on Christmas eve we left them on all night. I still do that today!

When I got married my husband's family got together every Christmas eve for pizza, root beer floats and a gift exchange. This is one we do every year with them and I hope it passes down to our younger members of the family.

Also, since having kids we have started a few new ones. My favorite would have to be the toy donation. Each child picks a toy at the store and gets to donate it to less fortunate kids. My kids are very young so they still get help from me. As they get older I want them appreciate what they have and have the gift of charity in their hearts.

So as you can see I LOVE this time of year since I couldn't pick just one tradition. :)

All you have to do is leave a comment with a favorite holiday tradition of yours. Easy enough!!

Anyone can enter, but only once please. The contest will end on Monday,12/22 and the winner will be randomly selected and announced on Tuesday, 12/23. The winner will receive a gift card to Target. After all who doesn't love to shop at Target?!

So leave a comment for us on this post and give us some good ideas for some traditions that we might want to start with our families.

Happy Holidays!!

Each child gets an ornament each Christmas and when they are old enough they get to pick thier own. This year my son chose a spiderman. We also get a chocolate advent calendar from my mom something we have done since I was a kid. We also have waffles every Christmas morning for breakfast.

OK I will enter...lol
We have so many traditions but I will name just a few.

Every Friday or Saturday night we all sleep in the livingroom together and watch Christmas movies. We turn all the lights of except for the tree and we have a fire in the fireplace.

We love going to look at Christmas lights as a family. We love going to Alta Loma. We always pack Hot Cider and Hot Chocolate and we always walk no driving.

Another tradition that I am sure everyone does is we all get new pj's on Christmas eve. A few years ago I did something new. I got the kids all new pillows so now that is what they open on Christmas eve.

When we were little we used to go as a family into the mountains and cut down our Christmas tree. Then we would come home and make hot cocoa and decorate the tree.

Hey Lettie! We went looking at lights in Alto Loma when I was a kid too! Loved that! We'd sing Christmas carols the whole way there and back...well, at least I would!

As a child, I LOVED that my parents let us open one gift on Christmas Eve. This is a tradition that I have not been allowed to carry over since being wed! My father in law told me, "If you're gonna open one then you have to open them all!" Which I was ALL for...but didn't do. (darn).

By far the best Christmas tradition is reenacting the story of the night Christ was born. As a kid, I loved being an angel and now I get to watch my girls dress up and play their parts.

OH! One more! On Christmas day we eat tamales, taquitos and guacamole. We did this growing up and we still do it today!

If I win...you get to keep the Target gift card!

When I was a kid every Christmas morning we would wake up and climb into my parents bed. We would stay there that morning as a family and make each other laugh for a while before going in to open our presents. This was really one of my favorite Christmas traditions that I hope to keep in my family now. Ryan has even joined in with this one year.
We would also visit the lights in Chino. The past few years we have began viewing the lights in Alta Loma.

Every Christmas season my mom would bake cookies for are neighbors. I loved seeing her love of giving. She showed me a great example and now I try to bake cookies every year.

Veronica! Will you come to Snowflake and help me bake??? Baking and giving goodies plates is like a MUST here. Everyone does it. We get SO many goodie plates each year that I start re-gifting them! That works out okay as long as nobody asks for the recipe! I'd LOVE some help in the kitchen though...and I mean REAL help...not the kind you get from a 3 or 6 year old! But baking with the kids is good for them...and if nothing else, it gives me an opportunity to learn to have more patience right?

Every year we celebrate Christmas in our jammies with the whole huge family. My favorite tradition that I hope my children will remember is baking cookies to leave out for Santa. Then after they go to bed my husband santa leaves footprints from the fireplace to their presents. We use baking soda for the footprints. The boys get so excited knowing Santa was in the house.

Jodi- I love the Santa foot print idea! :)

That is one thing that I am becoming more and more aware of as the kids get older and I wonder where the time has gone. I try to get an ornament each year with our name on it and I put the date. This year they are little moose. We also do the traditional advent calendar but I got a new find yesterday that will make it a little more fun next year. I have adopted Letti's 24 books to Christmas and am spreading the word as we really need to get kids hooked in to reading, with all the other entertainment that it pushed in their faces with tv and video games.

I know it's been taken, but opening one present on Christmas Eve. That rocks. It's a magical time when you're getting your first taste of the unlimited possibilites of what could be waiting for you the next day. Yay for Christmas Eve.
